Jon Stewart to host 2006 Academy Awards
Funnyman Jon Stewart has been slated to replace Chris Rock for this year's Oscars ceremony. The Daily Show host has been chosen because of the Academy's belief that he will attract audiences due to his similar qualities as David Letterman, Billy Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg. Wow. I don't know if I'd take that as a compliment if I were Jon. Aside from Crystal, the other two just weren't all that entertaining as hosts (remember Letterman's dying "Uma, Oprah, Oprah, Uma" tirade?) We all know the tightwads who run the awards are so enamored by the likes of humorless fuckwads like Sean Penn, so his disapproving comment of Chris Rock's joke about Jude Law is probably what kept him from hosting for another year. Personally, I think Rock was hilarious as the host. He didn't hold back on anyone, and I think Jon Stewart would agree with that wholeheartedly. The fun part is, if Jon suspects this is actually the reason Rock got replaced, then Penn is in for a world of shit. I've seen what happens when John calls bullshit on people; they get far more than an earful (take Tucker Carlson, for example.) God, I hope he doesn't become the Academy's puppet and not poke humorous jabs at the stars. But he can refrain from the 'gay cowboy' jokes. That's been beaten to the ground already.
Could you imagine what would happen if Mike and I hosted the Awards? They'd be begging for Rock to return.
